Podcast: Student Success Resources

Student success is at the core of California Community College real estate classes. We support the principles of the Vision for Success, to support improved outcomes for community college students. Commitment 3 of the Vision for Success is to “pair high expectations with high support.” But what does “high support” look like at your college? How does your knowledge of the on campus and virtual support resources impact the outcomes for students in your classes?

In this CCCREEC podcast, you’ll hear a conversation with Saddleback College real estate faculty Martin Welc and Brock Schermerhorn, who interview Saddleback College's Vice President of Student Services, Dr. Juan Avalos. Dr. Avalos discusses the student services support programs that most community colleges have available, and where to go for help if you recognize that a student needs additional support to be successful in your real estate program.

The conversation includes Dr. Juan Avalos, who currently serves as the Vice President for Student Services at Saddleback College.  Dr. Avalos brings twenty-three years of cumulative experience across four-year private, four-year public, and two-year public institutions, with the last sixteen years at multi-college districts in California (Los Rios and South Orange).  Dr. Avalos is active in state-wide leadership; currently serving on the board of directors of the California Community College Athletics Association (3C2A). Dr. Avalos has earned Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Arts degrees in Education from University of California Los Angeles, a Bachelor of Science in Applied Behavioral Science from University of California Davis, and a high school diploma from Bishop Mora Salesian High School in East Los Angeles.  Dr. Avalos grew up in South Los Angeles and was raised in a blue-collar household where he learned the importance of education, hard work, perusing your dreams, and being of service to the community.
